Representatives of the European exhibition industry gathered in London for the EMECA General Assembly. Grupa MTP was also in attendance. As the only representative from Poland, the Poznań-based company is part of a group of leading exhibition and trade fair centers in Europe.

Leaders of the meetings industry at ExCeL London

The spring General Assembly of EMECA (European Major Exhibition Centres Association) took place on May 13, 2026, hosted by ExCeL London. The organization currently brings together 25 leading exhibition venues across Europe. Many of these entities combine the management of advanced infrastructure with the independent organization of trade fairs, congresses, and events.

Grupa MTP actively participated in the discussions as Poland’s representative within this international forum. Of particular importance to the domestic market is the fact that the current President of EMECA is Elżbieta Roeske of Grupa MTP, highlighting Poznań’s strong position within the European meetings industry.

Strategic investments, digitalization, and artificial intelligence

The main focus of the discussions was the current economic situation of the sector. Despite global geopolitical challenges and market uncertainty, the exhibition industry remains highly resilient, with member forecasts pointing to continued revenue growth. Participants emphasized that demand for in-person meetings continues to rise, as they play a critical role in building trust.

To effectively respond to dynamic economic changes, European venues are focusing on diversification and the development of new formats. A key element of their strategy is the continuous expansion of digital offerings that support sales processes. Investments by EMECA members are concentrated on digitalization, database optimization, the implementation of artificial intelligence, and robust cybersecurity measures.

Multifunctional spaces and sustainability

A key trend discussed during the assembly is the transformation of exhibition infrastructure toward multifunctional spaces. Traditional venues are increasingly combining trade fair and congress functions with sports events, concerts, and cultural and entertainment programming. This model is successfully implemented by Grupa MTP, which continues to adapt its capabilities to a wide range of business, congress, and event formats.

At the same time, the industry is advancing sustainability and climate initiatives, investing in photovoltaic installations and upgrading infrastructure to improve energy efficiency. EMECA actively supports the global Net Zero Carbon Events initiative, which provides the sector with precise tools to measure carbon emissions and promotes education in decarbonization.
